It's all about capturing the perfect #selfie these days. Getting photo-ready skin can be difficult, especially when you have imperfect skin. I got really excited when I first heard that Physicians Formula has a new line of makeup, #InstaReady,
Growing up, I had problem skin all throughout middle school. high school and the beginning of college. I tried almost everything the doctor prescribed. Certain prescriptions would work, but then my skin would get used to them and start to counteract their effects. It was frustrating, especially being a young girl who didn't want to have to wear foundation and coverup just to feel comfortable in her own skin. I even remember days that I wouldn't go out because my skin got so bad. Looking back, I wish I could save this girl from feeling this way. We should be comfortable with our imperfections (that's beauty). Now, wearing makeup is a part of the fun about being a girl. Getting all dolled up with your friends by your side, getting an #instaready face and finding the perfect outfit.
Along the way, I learned that the cheap drugstore cosmetics and the way I ate had contributed to my poor skin. As I transitioned to a whole-food based diet and became more conscious about what I put into my body, my skin began to glow. I stopped taking prescription medicine (pills and topical solution) for my skin at the end of my freshmen year of college and I haven't used anything since. I continue to eat clean, use a natural cleanser and have upgraded my makeup bag. While I used to think that Physician's Formula makeup was pricey (totally is for an 8th grader with $10 to her name), I now think it's affordable and the perfect in-between if you're not looking to spend your entire paycheck on high-end makeup. It's Rx for Glamour.
Here are some of the products I tried from their new #InstaReady line:
Disclaimer: I don't like to overdo it with my makeup. But, if you had acne as a youngster, chances are you still have flare-ups and are left with acne scars. I need something to give me perfect coverage, without overdoing it.
I've always been a fan of cream-based makeup because of their easy application. The brand claims to give the skin a “retouched” look, as if it were put through your fave Instagram filter (or that one Snapchat filter that makes everyone look Beyonce flawless). They were right! It didn't clog my pores (important if you've had acne) and I honestly didn't feel like it was caked on. The coverage was just right. Being the sensitive type, my skin didn't love the BB Cream at first. I think this was actually due to traveling to an area with different water than my skin was used to. After a few weeks of wearing it when I would go out, it has gotten used to it and I think it gives the perfect coverage (without being too heavy) for going out. I don't feel like I was wear anything with it on!
The contour sticks were cool if you were looking to really glam up for a night out and the powders added to the coverage. I really liked the BB Bronzer, because it added just the right amount of color to my face and I could control where I put it (T-zone it, girl). I was in Arizona for a few weeks, so I definitely needed to bronze my face up a little because the skin on my face never gets as tan as my body!
Moreover, I was really excited to learn about Physician Formula's #GiveMoreOfYourSelfie campaign, where you could win $1,000 and more, and get the makeup collection mentioned above. Visit physiciansformula.com now to find out how you can enter! Just last week, I coordinated a "BRUNCH x BURN" fundraiser at Equinox gym to raise money for breast cancer research. This was my first event in Chicago, and I'm thrilled with how big of a success it was. There were 150 attendees, 50+ sponsors and we raised over $3,000! You can read more about it here (you bet I was wearing this PF line!). I'm also really excited to start planning a BRUNCH x BURN fundraiser to raise money for the Women's Health Run 10 Feed 10 race, which instantly provides 10 meals to people going hungry in your local community. ALL proceeds from these events go straight to the cause, so I'm excited to give back in any ways I can, while also bringing a fitness community together for a super fun event. The first one included a braid bar, beyonce-inspired classes (one was called "Best Butt Ever"), healthy snacks and so much more!
Overall, I think the new InstaReady makeup collection definitely helps create the perfect selfie, with minimal effort. At the same time, the brand is promoting selflessness and giving more of yourself. Kudos to these guys. How are you giving more of your selfie? :)
