After recently trying an Avo-Matcha smoothie from one of my favorite "clean fast food" restaurants in Chicago, Protein Bar, I had to recreate it myself at home. After looking at all the ingredients (vanilla protein, avocado, matcha green tea and raw honey), I was excited since I already had everything I needed - SCORE!
Matcha green tea powder is an antioxidant powerhouse. It's a cancer-fighter and fat-burner all in one powdered form. Think of it as a highly concentrated form of green tea packets we know and love! Prior to this smoothie recipe, I wasn't sure how to use my matcha. I tried putting it into my hot tea and mixing it with cold water, but I just wasn't excited about it. Yes, it's the perfect way to green up a smoothie and get your metabolism revving while detoxifying your system. I got mine at a small health food store, but have seen it at Mariano's, Whole Foods, GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, iHerb.com, Amazon, etc.
When matcha meets avo, magic happens. It's a perfect mix of protein, potassium and unsaturated good-for-you fats!
Here's my twist on Protein Bar's Avo-Matcha smoothie:
Smoothie bowls. They're totally trending...and for a reason. If you follow me on Instagram (@kathyruda), chances are you've seen me post a pic or two of my "smoothie bowls". They're a great healthy alternative to ice cream or frozen yogurt and like good old-fashioned ice cream, smoothie bowls are cold, creamy and thick enough to eat with a spoon. What I love most (aside from the fact that they're full of gooD-for-you antioxidants!) is that you can get creative with ingredients and toppings. All you really need for a quality smoothie bowl is frozen or fresh fruit, almond milk and yogurt + ice to thicken. Then there's the gorgeous pink or purple smoothie bowls - which are actually "ACAI Bowls" or "Pitaya BowLS". Sound exotic? Yes. Can you make one today? YES!
I'm incredibly inspired by the strength of a community that comes together for a cause. We have the power to change society. We have the power to EMpower.
This year, I’m joining thousands of empowering men and women on a mission to end breast cancer with the AVON 39 walk. This begins my fundraising journey to help breast cancer patients in my community and across the nation. Net funds raised will directly benefit the Chicago area and help make sure that care programs nationwide, as well as national research programs, have the resources to make the most progress possible to help obliterate breast cancer.
How do I want to raise awareness? I want to use my passion for health and fitness and plan my first-ever HerFitness Retreat with donations benefiting AVON 39. My planning starts now.
